Is the ‘Euphoria’ Look Just for Teens?

The high-school drama “Euphoria” is one of the most anxiety provoking shows on television today. The series has been referred to as a parents worst nightmare for its graphic scenes of drug use, sex and violence. The Parents Television Council is gathering signatures for a petition against the show because of warnings about its content. The D.A.R.E. said that Euphoria glorifies destructive behavior. Many people, especially parents, find the show too extreme to watch, whether they see it as stark reality or frightening fantasy.
Others are able to look past the graphic nature of Euphoria to find inspiration. Teenagers are discovering poetry in the series. The costume designer for the show, who has two nominations, told me that it is not for kids. The show’s look is smack in the middle of the Zeitgeist right now. Adults with mortgages and 9-to-5 jobs are dressing like they attend East Highland High School.
